Mighty Cthulhu Disavows Association with John McCain

Dead but dreaming and communicating telepathically from his headquarters in the cyclopean depths of sunken R’lyeh, the tentacle-faced Great Old One denied any association with Senator McCain or his presidential campaign.
“Sure, my earthly cult is composed of cannibalistic psychopaths, and they may have sacrificed a virgin or two, but Senator McCain and Governor Palin have stepped beyond the pale in both the strategy and tactics of the Republican campaign”, he said.
“I may be a hideous monster from the twisted spaces between the stars, but even We balk at the unspeakable maunderings of McCain’s campaign. One day that boy’s gonna blow” The Great One added, “and I’m glad I’ll be about 5,000 fathoms under the Atlantic when it happens.”

Non-partisan Election Note
I'll be in Chicago for a work-related thing on the day of the election. So I voted by absentee ballot. I don't know why everyone doesn't do this. It's fast, convenient, no crowds, no challenges at the polls, no weather trouble, and you have time to think about your decision(s)— all those judges! (Though, unlike Illinois, none were on the ballot in my new Connecticut home. I think the magic happy-unicorn judge fairy sprinkles judge-dust somewhere.)
And you have an automatic receipt because the ballot number and your name/address are recorded (by hand, with exquisite, painstakingly slow, Town-Clerk-y care) in a ledger.
If I recall, the she did not even ask for ID (!) or proof that I would, in fact, be out of town. She did say that this year they were "swamped".
So, until internet voting is perfected, it's absentee every time for this Concerned Citizen.

WWII Propaganda Posters

Interesting, mainly because they're from the German news mag "Der Spiegel". I couldn't find the location of these examples (don't ask), but a good place to start is here—

Finally. An Exhibit

We saw a very nice installation at the Dublin City Gallery (Parnell Square North, Dublin 1). They recreated— actually re-installed— painter Francis Bacon's studio as part of a larger exhibition of his works.
It was very well done. You could peer through various nooks and crannies, windows, doors, etc. on two levels to really get a feeling for his working environment. It's rare for an art museum to rise to this level of interpretation. The chaotic studio environment leaves you with the feeling that the paintings were all that mattered in his life. And that, after all, seems right to the point.
We couldn't take pictures in the exhibit, so the image is courtesy of the internet. Sorry for the low-rez.

Nice Flags…
Actually, they're prefecture (almost like our counties) flags. But who cares?
